Tossing my hard hat in the passenger seat of my truck, I start it then nod at Nash. I pull out after him and crank my air, hoping like hell it cools it off some. It's the middle of summer and hot as fuck as a result. My crew still has at least a month left at working on the frame of the building before we can get to the inside. Luckily, this job is bringing in the big money and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited as hell for the payout.
When I moved to Chesabay Pines to take over as the foreman for my uncle Alvin, it was a nice change in pace for me. I've worked my ass off for years at dead end construction jobs and places that use and abuse their employees. I've worked all kinds of positions, with all different walks of life, but so far I feel most at home and comfortable with my crew here. My guys bust their asses day-in and day-out for the business, and for me, so I'm fairly lenient with them. I've become good friends with Nash over the almost year and half I've been here. And hell, I might owe him for helping me line these guys out in the beginning and for showing me around Chesabay.
We pull into Mama G's Ice Cream Corner a few minutes later. I've learned it's one of the best things Chesabay Pines has to offer, thanks to Nash. My mouth practically waters at the thought of cooling down with some ice cream. I get out and wait for Nash to do the same before walking in. The bell chimes when we enter and Mama G — Gina to some of us — turns around to greet us.
“Boys,” she says with a beautiful bright smile that's contagious and has me grinning right back at her.
“Hey, Mama G,” Nash says at the same time I say, “Hey, Mrs. Gina.”
“I was starting to wonder if you boys were gonna come by tonight.”
“We needed to finish an area up before we could head out,” Nash tells her, and she nods.
“You boys are lucky. If you had come by at your regular time, you would have had to wait in a line five minutes long. We were so busy earlier. Thank God I had my daughter here to help. Anyway, what can I get y'all tonight?”
We take turns giving her our orders, and as she makes Nash's the sound of a door shutting grabs my attention. Seconds later my mouth waters for an entirely different reason.
“Oh, good, you're back. Make a double scoop of cookies and cream in a waffle cone with a single pump of chocolate for me, please.”
When they finish making our cones, Mrs. Gina realizes we haven't met.
“Oh, boys, this is my daughter, Summer. She just graduated last month and has agreed to help me out for a while. Summer, this is Nash and Levi. They work up the road for Alvin's Construct All and are usually regulars all summer long.”
“Hi, nice to meet you guys,” Summer says.
Nash replies to her, but I'm fucking stupid as hell right now, and my mouth won't work. I lock my eyes on this stunning girl with the big blue eyes. Finally, Nash elbows me and I snap out of it.
Damn, how long did I stare at her like I wanted her instead of this ice cream?
“Hey. Nice to meet you, Summer,” I say, and she gives me a bright beautiful smile so similar to her mom's that I know I'm done for.
If Mrs. Gina noticed how I was ogling her daughter, she didn't mention it. I'm glad too because it was so damn obvious.
“Man, you'd think you'd never seen a girl before,” cracks Nash as we take our seats.
“I know, fuck. I don't know what the hell happened. It felt like I found something I didn't even know I was missing.”
Nash raises his brows at me and I shake my head, telling him nevermind.
We eat our ice cream while talking about the next month and how much work will be involved especially since I just got two new guys. When Summer walks out from the back to wipe tables I, not so subtly, track her every move. My god. She's a curvy goddess and I can't help thinking about how I'd like to worship her.
Her bright blonde hair is pulled up onto the top of her head in a messy bun, her face is free of makeup, and she's wearing a t-shirt with the ice cream shop's logo and black capris. Fuck she's gorgeous and her body... hell, she's got big tits that make her pale blue shirt stretch tight across that ample chest and I don't even wanna talk about her ass. Thick and sexy is what Summer is.
She bends over a table scrubbing a spot while my eyes stay firmly fixed on her ass. My cock stirs to life when she turns and makes eye contact with me. Fucking hell.
“Dude, you're gonna get yourself in trouble. How old is that girl? Seventeen? Eighteen maybe.”
I know he's right, but I don't like him vocalizing it though. I'm a twenty-nine-year-old man, what business do I have with a girl straight out of high school?
“Fuck. You're right,” I say just as she finishes, making her way over to our table.
I swallow.
“Hey, do you guys need anything?”
“No, I think we're good. Thanks,” Nash says.
“No problem,” she says to him but looks at me.
I can't pry my eyes from her beautiful blues. She gives a small smile then looks away.
“Okay, see you fellas later,” she says, giving me one last lingering glance before making her way to the back.
I stare after her not realizing how obvious it is until Nash chuckles. I turn to face him and he shakes his head.
“This ought to be interesting,” he says.
Summer
I push the cart around the grocery store, my mind in a whole other world, mindlessly grabbing things. I probably should have made a list, but I hate sitting down and taking the time to work out meals and stuff. It's probably not the best way to go about it, but I haven't exactly went about things the right way ever in my life.
I walk down the frozen foods aisle, the cold instantly chilling me. I'm wearing a light pink tank and a pair of yoga pants. It's been so hot recently I had almost considered wearing shorts — almost. I hate wearing shorts outside of the house, my legs are too big and I cringe at people seeing the stupid dimples on the back of my thighs. So, for the most part I live in yoga pants or capris with the occasional pair of jeans, but the former is much cooler in the summer months. I live for fall and winter when I can wear baggy sweats. I sigh.
My mom wishes I would attempt to dress my age and less like a homeless person, so I try sometimes, but I'm just not comfortable and my self esteem has taken a nosedive these last couple of years. I'm sure I'll manage to work on myself enough to help give me some confidence again, but I'm just not ready.
I open a freezer door, a gust of cold air hitting me in the face causing goosebumps to break out along my skin. I grab some of our favorite breakfast foods and let the door fall shut as I place the items in the basket. I think I should probably grab one more box of waffles and make a quick spin and step without paying attention running smack into a hard body. His warm hands wrap around my upper arms to steady me and I instinctively look up. My mouth goes dry at the sight of the super hot construction guy from the ice cream shop last week. Surprise crosses his handsome face while a gleam forms in his soft brown eyes.
“Gosh, I-I'm so sorry,” I stammer, my face heating with embarrassment and something else I don't have time to decipher especially with his hands still on my skin.
“No, no. Don't be. I shouldn't have been careless,” he says.
He must realize he's still holding onto my arms because he lets go then steps back like I'm on fire. I frown.
“Summer, right?”
“Yes. And you are...” I pretend to think about it, though I don't know why because there's no way I would have ever forgotten this guy's name. “Levi,” I finally say and the smile that appears on his face makes my heart thump wildly in my chest.
“You're out awfully late, Summer.”
I think I like the way he says my name. I swallow thickly at how this meeting is affecting me. Now I know last week wasn't a fluke. This is bad.
“Yeah, I, um, I needed a few things,” is all I can come up with, but he nods like he understands.
“Me too,” he says, scratching the back of his head, my eyes drawn to the movement. I watch as the muscles in his forearm and bicep flex with the gesture and suck in a sharp breath. Internally, I cringe at how weak and hormonal I'm being. I don't have time for guys, not that this older, very attractive guy would give me the time of day.
“So, uh... I should be going, I guess,” I say, tugging on the hem of my thin tank. I realize my mistake when Levi's eyes glance at my breasts where I know my freaking high beams are on.
Dammit! What was I thinking wearing a sports bra with such a thin top?
When he bites his lip a jolt of lust slams into me, surprising me to my core. I've never felt anything so powerful as the attraction and desire that's coursing through me. No, I can't do this.
His eyes jump back to mine and he has the decency to look rueful. I pla
ster on a big smile backing away until my back hits the handle of my cart.
“It was really nice seeing you again, Summer,” he says, excitement shining in his beautiful eyes.
I smile again telling him the same before hightailing it out of there. Trying and failing not to think about the way he looked at me or what exactly that emotion was in his eyes.
Levi
God, Summer is fucking beautiful.
What am I doing?
This is so unlike me. I've thought of her a lot over the past week. It's been torture. Oddly enough, I haven't seen her in Mrs. Gina's which has kinda sucked. I look for her every damn day. Nash lets me know how pathetic I am every chance he gets. Fuck him and the fact that he's right. I don't even know her, but damn if I don't want to — in every way possible.
I can't believe I just ran into her. I had such a strong desire to grab her, pull her flush against me, and kiss her like I've wanted to since the day I met her. I'm grateful her eyes wondered no lower than my chest since I had been sporting a big ass boner as soon as I caught sight of her hardened nipples through her top. I shake my head while setting about gathering the last few things I came here for.
After paying, I head out wishing like hell I would have insisted on walking Summer to her car. It's late and a young curvy girl like her needn't be out all alone. I make it to my truck, the lot quiet except for the sound of laughter. I turn towards it noticing a few guys standing close to a car. I think nothing of it as I get in my truck. Backing out, I decide at the last minute to go the way of the guys' laughter, despite the fact that I live the opposite direction.
My headlights illuminate the three young guys and as I get closer, I see her. Summer. She's standing with her hand on the handle of an older Impala that looks like it's seen better days, while a guy stands far too fucking close to her and even from here I can see the scowl on her face. Before I even see his hand grip her arm, I'm out of my truck.
“Dan, I don't have time for this, get off me.”
The fucker doesn't release her immediately and I try to conceal the rage coming to the surface.
“Remove your hands or I'll do it for you,” I say, my voice low and menacing. Lucky for him he lets her go, but spins to face me, a perfect sneer in place.
“Levi?” She says at the same time he growls, “Who the hell are you?” Anger evident in his tone.
If I were a lesser man it might intimidate me, but as it stands my pinky finger is probably manlier than this pansy little shit.
I've known guys like these my whole life. Preppy, rich little dick-holes who think their shit don't stink because they belong to the fucking country club. Fuck them and the silver spoon shoved up their asses.
“I'm the guy letting you know that if you touch her again, I'll break every bone in your fucking hand.”
My eyes steady on his, making sure he understands how serious I am. I'm not surprised when he breaks eye contact first, a humorless laugh spilling from his mouth before he turns to Summer.
“Remember what I said, baby,” he says, his hand lifting to her face, but he must think better of it because he drops it back down to his side without making contact. Hmm, guess he's smarter than I gave him credit for. “Come on,” he says and the two guys that were standing silent as a mouse follow behind him. I had forgotten they were even there for as quiet as they were.
I stare after them until they pile in a fucking Audi and speed out of the lot. My attention returns to Summer, her gaze fixed on me. There's no mistaking the awe in her expression.
“Are you okay? I was seconds away from punching that fucker in his pretty little face. I won't put up with that shit.”
“Yes, I'm fine. Thank you. Been a long time since someone other than my parents stood up for me,” she says, her eyes drop to the pavement. My feet carry me to her, lifting her chin up so that her eyes are back on mine.
“Is this something that happens often? These guys fucking with you?”
“Not nearly as much as it used to be. Every year more of them get bored or grow up, leaving me alone. Now that I'm out of school though it should get better. I'm thinking most of the ones that are pricks to me will be off to college in a few weeks.”
I narrow my eyes when I realize she's saying more than those shits that I just ran off fucks with her.
“I don't understand. Are you telling me you get fucking bullied?” I growl, not able to contain the anger emerging.
“Yes... no. I mean, it's not that bad. People just say stuff. It's no big deal I'm used to it. Chesabay Pines is a small town, and most of these kids are just small minded. I know I'm better than who they think I am, who they make me out to be. It helps that I have such amazing supportive parents. I couldn't get through this life without them.”
Damn. I'm stunned into silence. I don't think I could be any more attracted to her and it's fucking me up because I shouldn't want her, but damn, I do. I'm eager to get to know Summer.
I study her, attempting to see what it is I'm not understanding, but also seeing how much older she seems than her years. Just as I'm about to ask her why anybody thinks they have the right to be a jackass to her she speaks up, squashing the conversation.
“I've got to get home. My stuff is probably thawing out by now. Thank you for taking the time to stop, it really meant something to me. You're a great guy,” she says, giving me her fantastic smile.
My heart beats so hard she's sure to hear it. I know she wants to leave, but fuck I can't let her go...not without tasting her, seeing where this could go.
I look down at her and she stares right back like she's waiting to see what I'll do. And as I'm weighing my options, she licks her pink pouty lips making my decision for me.
“Fuck,” I growl as my hand finds its way to the back of her head, tilting it just right before my lips crash down on hers.
I groan into her mouth tasting berries and mint. My hand finds her hip of its own accord while the one in her hair tightens. Her hands grab for my hips, pulling my body flush against hers. She moans when she feels my hardness digging into her soft stomach.
I devour her mouth, owning it, claiming her. She kisses me back with more hunger than I would have expected. I kiss her like my life depends on it.
I'm twenty-nine years old and I don't think I've ever felt this consumed from a kiss alone. There's something about Summer. Something that makes me want to find out everything there is to know about her. I wonder if she feels this, the way we fit so perfectly.
Catcalls from a car driving through the lot breaks us apart like we were just caught doing something we shouldn't be. I take a small step back and watch her chest heave from the passion of the kiss we shared. I can't stop my eyes from drifting down further noticing those hard points jutting out from her top, begging to be teased and toyed with.
She clears her throat, pulling my lingering eyes from her needy breasts. I can't find it in me to feel embarrassed, or sorry for that matter, for checking her out.
“I, uh... I gotta go. I should go.”
“Wait. Let me have your number.”
“I'm sorry, I can't, Levi. This should have never happened. I'm so sorry,” she says, pulling her car door open. I grab her hand before she can jump in and take off.
“Hey, it's fine,” I say because it looks like she's starting to freak out. “Okay?” She looks into my eyes, searching them for something before she nods.
“I'll see you soon, gorgeous,” I tell her, giving her a wink and backing away to let her go.
That couldn't have been more fucking perfect, despite the fact that she was a little panicked. One taste of Summer and I'm done for. There's no more questions about it, I know I have to have her. I'll make her mine, age difference and consequences be damned. This girl was made for me, I can't let her go. I just gotta figure out what caused that reaction and make sure it never happens again.
Summer
My lips are still tingling from the explosive kiss I had with Levi as I put away the groceries. I had no idea, not a damn clue that it could be like that. The way my body came alive, the way I wanted... more.
Not since I was fourteen have I let myself make the mistake of letting my guard down around a guy. I can't let what happened to tonight or the way I felt as a result change anything. Guys aren't even on my radar; they're not a part of my plans.
